We are so excited for our first guest post! Alex, with Alexandra Burt Photography, not only chose The Barn at Grace Hill from a bride’s perspective, but also with the eye of a wedding photographer, and we just had to know how she came to her decision!
There are so many factors that go into choosing your wedding venue. And Alex actually covered many great tips in choosing ALL your wedding vendors on this blog post: Booking Your Ideal Wedding Vendors
But being a wedding photographer herself, we were dying to know what was inside her head as she and Tate made their choice.
Here’s what Alex had to say…
How Your Venue Affects Your Wedding Photos - by Alexandra Burt Photography
While looking back there are endless reasons to have chosen the Barn at Grace Hill as our wedding venue, we ultimately booked with them because of how your venue affects your wedding photos. As a professional wedding photographer, I’ve shot in a lot of challenging environments over the years. From cluttered rooms in church buildings, to cathedrals with conflicting color temperatures (stained glass + overhead lighting), weddings often take place in atmospheres that can be tough to create photo magic in.
That’s not to say that true pros can’t make it happen, because they can! But a beautiful venue with great lighting makes a world of difference for wedding photos. And that’s exactly why we chose the Barn at Grace Hill for our wedding venue.
Below are the top 3 reasons, from a wedding photographer's perspective, that choosing The Barn at Grace Hill for our wedding venue was a no brainer:
1. Insane Natural Light is the #1 most important factor in photography. In fact, photography couldn’t exist without light. It really does affect everything about how images turn out, so shooting at the barn, a space that has buckets of natural light, is a photographer’s dream.
2. All That White = Photos You Can’t Mess Up. Like I previously mentioned, light is the most important factor in photography, and one of the things we loved most about the barn was that it had so much natural light. But part of why it results in such beautiful light is because the interior of the barn is mostly white. You see, light will reflect the color of the surfaces it touches. For example, let’s say a photographer is taking a portrait of a couple in a room with red walls. The room is dark, so the photographer opts to use an external flash to create some extra light. To create a softer, more natural look with the flash, the photographer bounces the flash off the wall behind her (which is red), only to find out when editing later that the photo has a red tint. Why? Because the light bounced off the red wall and reflected its color back onto the couple. Lemme tell you guys, trying to correct skin tones and remove the red tint in post-processing is a PAIN.In contrast, working in a space with white walls is amazing because it simplifies lighting for photographers significantly. The white walls of the barn reflect the soft, natural light that the windows bring in. And when it’s darker in the evening, using off camera flash will never be easier.
3. Unmatched Aesthetic. Ya’ll, this venue is the epitome of modern elegance. It’s truly dazzling, and we knew our wedding photos there would be phenomenal. From the symmetrical architecture, to the bold barn doors and 20’ windows, the Barn at Grace Hill makes a visual statement that you can’t help but be wowed by. And let’s be honest, there’s no comparison to their view of the golden Kansas plains.

Alex, thank you so much for trusting us with your wedding day and for sharing your heart on why you chose The Barn at Grace Hill. A couple as beautiful as you and Tate could be photographed anywhere and the pictures would be beautiful! But we are so grateful for your choice!
